2025 Iowa PGA Teacher of the Year
This year, I was honored to win Iowa PGA Teacher of the Year. This award means a ton to me and truly is a culmination of many things coming together at one time. As a teacher, we donโt show up every day to win awards. We teach because we want to give back to a game that has given us so much. Personally, golf has taken me to college, provided me with my dream career serving others, surrounded me with hardworking, kind, and genuine friends and colleagues, led me to my wife, and offered me an escape when life gets hectic. While I know I can never fully repay what the game has given me, I am determined to try.
Receiving an award like this is simply recognition of the progress Iโm making toward my goal of giving back. Itโs a true honor to have my name alongside fellow nominees who have made a far greater impact on the game, such as Ken Schall, Mark Egly, and Sarah Bidney. I feel beyond blessed to carry on and grow the Ken Schall Golf brand and legacy, and I think this is a great start.

About Me
My path into golf started a little later than most. I picked up the game at 16 years old and averaged 61 for nine holes my first year. I quickly fell in love with the game, and by my senior year of high school, I had lowered that average to 36โ37 and earned the opportunity to play collegiate golf at Grand View University.
I played four years at Grand View and was part of the programโs 2017 national championship team. Being around high-level players taught me a lot about how great golfers practice, train, prepare, and continue developing their games.
After college, I worked as an assistant golf professional before earning my PGA of America membership in 2021. I eventually decided to focus my career on what I enjoy mostโteaching and player developmentโand joined Ken Schall Golf as a performance coach and club fitter.

My Teaching Philosophy
My philosophy is simple: make the least possible changes to produce the greatest possible outcome.
I donโt believe golfers need to constantly rebuild their swings or chase perfect technique. My goal is to identify the root cause of whatโs holding you back, make the necessary change, and then build the skills around it.
Ultimately, Iโm not trying to give everyone the same golf swing. I want to help you develop a motion you can repeat and the skills you need to play better golf.

FAQ
Lesson Questions
- Do lesson packages expire?ย
Yes, starting in 2024 Lesson packages will expire 1 year after the date of first use.ย This is in an effort to keep our schedule open to current students.ย We also find that students who go through their package within a calendar year experience the most gain.ย Our average 5 pack lasts students 2-3 months & Our average 10 pack lasts 6-7 months.
*If you’ve previously bought a package with us, don’t worry, you package will not expire.ย This is not a retroactive change*
- Whatโs a Hybrid Package?
Hybrid packages are a combination of In-Person & Online Instruction.ย This is a great way for students to save money, time, and travel expenses while taking lessons.ย Packages will start with in-person Game Evaluations and alternate between in-person & online sessions until your package is completely utilized.ย **All packages have the option of exchanging in-person instruction for online instruction.
- What does an Online Lesson look like?
Online lessons for Hybrid Packages involve the student submitting a series a Swing Videos to your instructor.ย Just like an in-person lesson, you’ll get an analysis of the swing and how you’re progressing, along with the next steps.ย You’ll also receive a series of drill videos to help correct the movement/swing further, just like an in-person lesson.ย The only difference between an online lesson and an in-person lesson is that you don’t have to travel to the studio to see your instructor.ย Submit the lesson on your own time from the comfort of your own home.
- Whatโs a Student Community?
Ken Schall Golf Student Communities are Student groups of current and past students committed to continually bettering their game through competition, education & group learning.ย Youโll get access to a group forum where you can ask questions and engage with Ken Schall Golf coaches & students, weekly competitions, in-person meet-ups to practice & play, season end prizes, select discounts & more.
- What is Skillest?
Skillest is a lesson platform that we utilize to facilitate better learning within a session.ย This platform allows us to document additional content during lessons, facilitate online learning, schedule & plan practice for students, but most importantly; stay connected to you whenever you need us.ย Included in all lessons at Ken Schall Golf (with Seth or Sam).
- Whatโs a Game Evaluation?
A Game Evaluation is our way of assessing the current state of your game and setting forth a roadmap for you to reach your goals.ย Much like when you go to the doctors office; when you come into a Game Evaluation at Ken Schall Golf we assume that you are interested in our expertise at diagnosing exactly whatโs keeping you from achieving your goals.ย In this 2 hour session, youโll go through the trackman combine, play a few holes, putt on SAM Lab, & go through a TPI assessment (if booked with Seth). This will leave you with a clear picture of the necessary steps to take your game to the next level.
- How long are lessons?
Besides a Game Evaluation (2 hours) all our lessons at 1 hour long.ย We believe that anything shorter doesnโt allow enough time for proper learning.ย 1 hour lessons allow us to get you completely warmed up, catch up about how youโre dealing with past lesson changes, go over stats and homework, make new changes if needed, recap what we did, and make a plan for what to do between now and then next lesson.
- What is a good cadence between lessons?
Generally, we want the student to come back for their next lesson for one of two reasons.ย Either they feel comfortable with the previous changes to move on, or they are struggling and need extra help!ย Obviously it would be great to move onto something new every lesson, but some things you’ll pick up on quickly, others will challenge you a bit more.ย Don’t be ashamed to come back in for more help.ย That’s what we are here for!!
